Things, Goings On, and Stuff I write

My Bonk Account Has a Dent in It

Well, today at almost exactly noon we got into a car accident.  By that I mean someone rear-ended our Honda.  Ironically we were rear-ended about the same place that someone backed into our car [that’s a guess] in a hit & run some years back.  However, this time due to the motion and non motion of the two cars and the fact that a butterfly in central park had flapped its wings bringing the chaos theory into full motion (which assumes that chaos is in play at all, but is mostly just a joke, so put your Calvinist handbook down), the back part of the car is in much worse shape.  The bumper, the rear quarter-panel and the trunk are all smashed together into a shape that I can only describe, in the words of Abby, as broken.  The lights don’t light, the trunk won’t really shut, the part of the bumper that is supposed to get bumped in such a case is touching the ground in a friendly manner.

No one was injured, though Jessica’s neck is sore, so we’ll have to have that looked at on Monday.  Both cars were able to move out of the way after the connection and the gal who hit us was kind and we exchanged most of the important information in rough, but legible handwriting.  I say rough because my writing is horrendous, but also because both of us were a bit jarred and our adrenaline was at higher levels than normal.  I hope and pray that the insurance companies do their best to get things resolved quickly.  I’ll post pictures later when I have a moment to take them [Evie sitting right now, so I need to NOT go outside].

Abby wasn’t in the car, we were going to pick her up from the Recreation center where she had gone to a princess party for local girls (and trans-gender boys).  She was quite upset that our car was broken but hopes now that this will lead to the sublime world of mini-van ownership 😉

Barry Bonds Did NOT Tie Babe Ruth

To my knowledge the famed baseball player Babe Ruth (after which the candy bar was named, and also after which my daughter Abby’s middle name was not derived) still holds the record for most home runs hit without steroid usage.  I could be all wrong.  Maybe the Babe secretly injected himself with hormones, steroids or twinkies.  Barry Bonds was a promising athlete, but as soon as he started enhancing his performance with testicle shrinking performance enhancing drugs, he lost the race.  Guiness Book of Whirled Records should totally reject his new record, or at least put a good disclaimer in there.

Happy Day After Mothers Day!

Howdy you mothers, fathers, children, siblings and folk.  This mothers day we went to Maggiano’s for dinner.  Whoa.  That was a mistake.  Not because it was bad, but because it was too good.  I will no longer be able to go to the Olive Garden and think, “This is descent Italian food.”   I will have to think, “This is acceptable Italian food.”  I have officially been converted.  I have had very few restaurant experiences where I was ‘converted’ but this was one of them.  It was the P.F. Changs of Italian, the Ruth’s Chris of Italian, the Texas de Brazil of Italian.

Save up your money, find one, and get eating.  Sure, its a bit pricier than Olive Garden, but zowie is it good!

Oh, and to my mom, Happy Mothers Day, I tried to call but you were in the nether-regions of Northern California, so apparently you could not be reached.

My Force Field Blocked Your Mega-Lazer

I was just thinking about my childhood.  For some people that would be a bad thing, but I think mine was pretty cool.  I remember distinctly digging in my friend’s mom’s garden with him so that our G.I. Joe’s could have bases & forts.  We never actually got around to playing with the G.I. Joe’s because we were too busy digging in the dirt.  However, when we did actually play we always had extremely intense weapons.  If your team was going to win you needed to have lazer equipped fighter jets that can blow the enemy into vapor.

And if you’re the enemy you need to have plasma-mega-ultra force fields (or force shields) that will block anything coming in.  Otherwise, you could be toasted by the ultra-uber-mega lazer smashing ray of doom.

And we can’t have that!

Best Tacos of the Year Award

Last night we had some fantastic tacos at our friends house.  Which sort of reminds me of this.  Anyway, they were really, really good and I think they were surely the best tacos I have had this year.  As a stinky cono-sewer of tacos, I can say that this is a prestigious award that few have been able to garner with the simple garnishes that a taco is made from.  Kudos on the tacos, Rachel (and Jim).  Happy birthday Henry, for whom we celebrated by eating the tacos.

Poll Skewer

Yesterday I had a man with a clipboard gingerly ask me if I would be willing to take a survey.  He identified himself as being with a group for equality something or other.  The survey was about how people felt about homosexuality.  Except they didn’t really want to know how I felt, they wanted yes or no answers.  They asked loaded questions that begged other questions they didn’t ask and they in the end handed out a 2 page pamphlet about discrimination.

I answered some of the questions one way and others another, not because I was trying to skew the poll, but because I knew that they were trying to polarize folks with the questions and I wasn’t going to buy into their game.  About half way through the, “Survey [that] won’t take less than a minute of [my] time,” the guy dropped the F-bomb.  So, since he felt free to be working and talking to the public and swearing I felt free to tell him that I had taught a Sunday School class on what the Bible says about homosexuality.  He then quickly finished the survey and took off 🙂  Why do they want skewed numbers for a serious poll… unless this isn’t a serious poll.

Colorado Springs & One Year

This weekend we went to Colorado Springs and had a great time.  I’ve uploaded pictures to Flickr.com.  Of course there aren’t any of the girls… yet.  But they’re coming.   We ate at P.F. Chang’s again.  Too.  Much. Food.  But it was tasty and I’ll do it again when I have fasted for 2 days before.

Then on Sunday afternoon I installed some sod on our front lawn to replace some crab grass that had unfortunately been allowed to grow there by the previous owner and last year I couldn’t handle that and all of the indoor tweakings at our house.  Speaking of which, today is one year of paying on a mortgage for this house 🙂

Home Made Chicken Dinner

After eating out for so much of this week last night I had a tasty chicken dinner over at Dave’s place.  His lovely bride, Darlene, made a tasty meal.  I got to meet and spend some time with Dave’s mom as well.  All was lovely, including his little girls who are almost as cute as my own 😉  I think that home made is going to be my new ‘eating out’ in that it will be a treat since it isn’t greasy, full of fat (well, maybe it could be), and not huge portions.

Oh, and I’m heading home this evening and can’t wait to see my family!

Es Ist Einen Nasal Passage

My nose and nasal passages have been all sorts of funky with allergies.  The plane ride had pressure inside of my head that was crazy.  I haven’t acclimated to the change in elevation yet and things are ringing… and no, Becky, they are not phones that I’m hearing ringing.   Speaking of which cell phones don’t ring any more.  People have MIDI files, MP3 files or various other things that sound off, but I don’t hear nearly as many annoying ‘bing, bing, bing, bong, bo-o-o-ong’ sounds as I used to.  I think we’ll hear them again in about 2 years when people think retro-cell sounds are cool again.

Is There a Bed in Texas?

Tonight was a tough night to put Abby to bed. You see in the morning (or before the morning in my normal sleeping schedule) I will leave for Dallas/Fort Worth. Abby is quite sad that I’m leaving and has been crying upstairs for a while. It is tough to endure that crying, but it must be done. She asked me if there is a bed in Texas (upon which she might sleep, I think). Then she asked that, if I had any friends in Texas, she be taken to meet them when she gets bigger.

I love my wife, my girls, and our house in Aurora as well as church and family here. It is tough leaving them. Evie has been particularly smiley this evening which is good. I will have good ‘last memories’ from before the departure 🙂
