Big Week Ahead

This week is going to be rather fun, Evie turns one on Tuesday.  I’m so thrilled that she’s developing into a little toddler girl.  My baby girl won’t be a baby much longer.  Abby ages a year every month it seems as her vocabulary, her clothes and her body change.  Wow.  I have two beautiful girls, a gorgeous wife and a lovely chance to be a husband and dad.

Good times!

US Apparently Needs More Space

I just read this article on the BBC about the United States new Space bill.  What a joke!  How on Earth [apologies for the pun] are we going to justify to the international community that we

  1. Need to control the space outside of our planet
  2. Know exactly where our international space boundaries are (everywhere?)
  3. Are not developing weapons to blow everyone else out of space except for the chosen few that we think should also be in space – when we like them to be
  4. Can monitor commercial flights into space in a friendly way for them [in other words we’re really nice for letting them send commercial or otherwise flights into OUR space]

I love being a United States citizen for the rights I have.  I hate that we’re so arrogant that we think we can ‘claim’ outer space for our own.  Brilliant.

Vocabulary: Soporific

If you are looking for a hip new word to wow friends with (unless this word isn’t new to you), try “soporific”.  It means something that puts you to sleep.  Example, “Most news programs are soporific.”  Or, “I found the Grapes of Wrath to be soporific.”

What hip words do you like to use that you’ve learned recently?

$28.28

I just paid $28.28 to fill up my gas tank [$2.279/gal.]. It makes me feel like I’m paying so little. I try to forget how irritated I got when it cost me more than $20.00 the first time 🙂 So how much do you (in other areas) pay for gas as prices have ‘gone down’?

The Marines Called…

and I’m one of the chosen few.  They want me to go out and be one of the few, the proud, the Marines.  The “re-crew-ter” wanted to schedule a time for me to come down and talk with him about my goals and future.  I was touched that at least one agent of my government wanted to know me on such a personal level.  No politician has ever wanted that.

But then I realized that this guy just wanted me for my body.  That made me feel dirty because I’ve not had any other guy proposition me like that.  I’m just a number to him – I think number 5,269.  But whatever number I might have been it was nice of him to call.  I told him that I have a lovely career and that I have two little girls that I’m not going to leave behind.  They can draft me if they need me that bad, but I think that right now they’re using the NASCAR drafters instead.  Not to mention I have a wife who would be sad if I was gone on a tour of duty in Iraq that has been extended every time I’m just about to go home like so many of the soldiers have had happen.  We have one couple that we are aware of from church (the daughter of some folks at church and her husband) who have been delayed in being back together for several years now.  Years.

No thanks, I’ll stick with my zero minute commute and getting to see my family as needed.

Look What the Wind Just Blew In

This weekend my dad helped me install four new vents in our attic and then assisted me in blowing in 25 bails of cellulose insulation.  We can already tell a big difference in the warmth of our house, and in the summer the vents will help by allowing the heat to circulate out of the attic space and allow our swamp cooler to keep the house cooler with less power used.
Thanks, Dad! And thanks United States politicians for buying into the idea of tax credits that real citizens can use. Have you used your $500.00 tax credit yet? There’s one for next year, too that I’m hoping to use to insulate the garage to increase our house’s seal. Word on the streets has it that this will keep things even warmer in the house because less draft will be coming in this way, and it will also help keep the temperature of the garage more stable so that the car doesn’t burn up in the summer or get too cold in the winter. We’ll be living in a controlled environment 😉

Seriously though: take advantage of this credit! [Government Website Link Here]

Shopping for a One Year Old’s Birthday

Tonight we picked up a few small presents for Evelyn’s birthday.  With her in the cart.  Holding the presents as we walked through the store.  I love shopping with her because the surprise will still be on her face when she turns one on the 24th.  Its good stuff 🙂

She loves puppies and dogs for those who are wondering.

The Anniversary Weekend Report

This weekend with Jessica was great!  We got from Friday evening to this afternoon close to 5:00 together with little to no interuptions.  Wow!  Wonderful!  Fantastic!  Lets do it again next weekend!  Between great food, great time talking, great amounts of shopping and great animals, it was just… well… great!  I can’t imagine being married to anyone but this beautiful woman whom I love.

Food:

  • Starbucks has a new Maple Latte.  This is a terrific autumn treat.
  • Cracker Barrel Pecan Pancakes (with maple syrup).  They pile some pecans on the pan and then pour batter over them.  Whoo!  Good stuff.
  • Ted’s Montana Grill had Bison ribs.  I enjoyed them a lot!
  • Macaroni Grill had a well rounded Italian lentel soup.  Get this.  It has proscutto and is just warm and hearty.

Shopping

  • Scored two shirts.  One a dress shirt and one a t-shirt.
  • Jessica got some ear-rings and other stuff at Claire’s.  She also really wanted some stuff at this shop called White House | Black Market.
  • We scored some books at Barnes & Noble
  • We got two stuffed animals for the girls at the Colorado Springs Zoo

Cool other things:

  • Jessica got to feed the giraffes at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo [picture of a giraffe there]
  • iPods are an awesome way for us to carry way too much music on trips like this
  • I scored the White Stripes album De Stijl
  • Jessica listened to two of my silly rap songs that I’ve written for birthdays [2, 1] and didn’t kill me for being associated with rap
  • Saw Adam Sandler’s movie ‘Click’ and was actually inspired.  Amazing.

I love my wife!  She’s awesome.  I can’t wait to be married to her for 80 years.  Speaking of which congrats to my grandparents for 60 years of marriage!

Start Your Weekend Off with a Dig!

So, last night was the beginning of our weekend without the kids for our eigth anniversary.  The Kaes have the girls, and we have this odd sense of freedom.  As we left the house we were waiting at a traffic light and I looked in my rear view mirror there was a woman picking her nose.  I didn’t think much of it because after driving for so long I’ve seen more nose picking than would make for a good blog entry to write about.  But in a split second she slipped her finger into her [feeling sick here, sorry] mouth.  At this point in time I should have looked away but I was shocked.  I wanted to see clearly and penetrate the slightly less that crystal clear image I was seeing to make sure that I was really seeing what I thought I was seeing.  She did it again.  I busted into odd laughter and Jessica asked what was so funny.  I told her.  And then I think I pretty much ruined the whole evening for her because of my obvserving one strange woman doing things that ought not be done.  I dug myself a whole there was no getting out of.

After we spent some time together we were able to forget about the gal and things went smoothly and we had a good time.  Day one ended with no other freakishly weird things happening 🙂
