Deerfield is going down. This made me chuckle. I think the author is a beta tester 🙂
Theology and Hermeneutics
I’ve had a conversation or two here that has made me want to say, “Get some basic understandings of Hermeneutics!” Understanding context, who the intended audience is, and what the key details of the language are makes a HUGE difference in what you conclude the interpretation and application are. If Christ was speaking directly to his disciples then just throwing yourself into their midst to gain direct application of what he said makes you a Disciple. “I am a disciple,” you say. Yes, but you are not one of The Disciples. And therein lies a great distinction. Don’t get confused about who you are in Christ. His disciples were small servants, we are called to be even smaller servants, more humble, more willing to serve… don’t try to be great and powerful, but be a simple vessel who can be used.
I also stuck my mouth in my foot (not a typo but a joke) last week when I went to breakfast with my brother and his mentor, Eric. I talked negatively about Benny Hinn (who is a heretic in my opinion). Eric didn’t seem to like my negativity about Benny. Then on Sunday at church the pastor, Louie, talked highly of him. Doh!
Father’s Day and the Day Before
Well, as a father I happen to like having a daughter, and Abby was especially cute saying, “Happy Fathers Day.” I think it was Shari who also taught her how to say, “Sup Dawg.” So Abby is learning a lot of things here and she is having a great time with cousin Brennan.
I got to see a long list of people at the Katzorke-Peterman wedding – I was an usher along with my brother and so I got to seet folks – which gave me a whole 45 seconds to chit chat and tell them that I like Colorado. Colorado was the major question I got asked about.
“How do you like Colorado?”
“I hate it.”
“Really? Why?”
“Because it seems like a nice place and if it is a nice place then it means that any day now I’ll be unplugged from the Matrix by swallowing the red pill [Nyquil].”
“Follow the white Rabbit.”
Speaking of rabbits I haven’t seen any here for some time so I hope that we’ll be able to take a walk when I get back and go for a long bunny counting walk and see 29 bunnies – a new record for a bunny walk (28 is the current record).
Sponge Bob Square Pants has been the DVD of choice for the kids and “Madame Blueberry” [Veggie Tales] the VHS video of choice. I have seen all 10 episodes of Sponge Bob at least 2 times if not 3-5 for some of them.
That is all for now – class is dismissed.
The Wedding Day
Today at the wedding my grandpa got up in front of the church and started the ceremony and shortly got to the part that normally starts with, ‘Who gives this woman…?’ but instead said,
“Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?”
That took us all by surprise, but was well worth it.
OK, that’s a lie (but you knew that already). Becky’s wedding starts in a couple hours and so we’ll see how it goes. My Uncle and Aunt and cousins were in a minor accident yesterday afternoon that could have proven fatal if any of the elements were different. A semi with a trailor full of glass spilled its load 5 car lengths from them. The glass slid and hit their car but had it been going faster or landed closer to them it may have very well cut them up. Fortunately they were OK and their vehicle received only minor damage.
I’ll report more later.
The Internet
The Internet is broken in Carson City. Not really broken, but at least I’ve had a hard time getting online. I finally broke down and am dialing up via AOL temporarily (again). Fortunately I can use my sister-in-law’s account to connect. The wedding is tomorrow and I can’t wait to see the way things go down, it should be fun.
See you later!
The Doors
My brother is trying to install new doors here at his house in CC. The problem is that the moron at the lumber shop apparently doesn’t know how to mill the doors so that out of 12 doors none of them have worked so far for their djambs. Either the hinge groove is in the wrong place or the latch doesn’t line up with the hole. Gotta love incompetance, it gives you an oportunity to feel smart even over things like measurements. The guy at the lumber yard explained that he didn’t know what 3/32nds were. (Run for your life, he’s working with power tools).
Taking Off Tonight
Tonight approximately around 9:15 we’re flying from Denver International Airport to Reno – Tahoe International Airport. Fortunately we’re going to stay at the Chateau de Peterman with a lovely view of cows and a Mormon Snake Center. Also, we’ll be attending the marriage ceremony of Kurt Katzorke and Becky Peterman. My brother Ed and I will be in the wedding – we will be wearing tu-tu’s and assisting the flower girls lift the heavy flower petals.
I have been charged with bringing the music for the ceremony – I fit it all on one DVD. I fit nearly 4.7 gigabytes of legal MP3’s onto a DVD so that people can schuck and jive as needed.
I must go now or they’ll discover the hole I’ve tunneled into your cell.
Thoughts on Web Standards
The real reason you should care about web standards is an interesting article on the issue of Web Standards and dealing with MicroSoft. Frankly, it doesn’t offer a solution but is plotting along in that direction.
Abby Sized Bible Verses
We’ve been working on Bible memory verses for Abby already, and here is last weeks, followed by this weeks:
Psalm 117:1
Praise the Lord All you nations;
Laud Him all you peoples.
I Thesellonians 5:16-17
Rejoice Always.
Pray without ceasing.
It’s a Blanket and Broom in One
This morning little miss Abby was dragging her cute, frilly blankets around and was collecting ‘stuff’ in them (note that we do vacuum and sweep and mop regularly). The best part was the fact I could remove them from her person in exchange for a cup of milk 🙂
