So this year’s resolution is to write, record and produce an album by the time I’m thirty. Sure, that gives me one quarter of the year to do nothing, but since my birthday is at the end of September (the 25th for those who have to know the exact date) that actually moves the deadline up. I’m working on creating a website for my musical outlet (it is make believe at present) but you can keep your eyes out and (plug your) ears at music.randypeterman.com. As I record things I will post them there, then, when all of the songs are recorded I will have to figure out what else to do with my pseudonym, “Scream Apparatus.” I don’t see touring in my future.

The Collective Buttocks of the Music Industry Have Spoken
In what can only be described as either insane or completely normal for insane people the Major music labels of America, AKA:” The people who would sue your grandma if they found out she had MP3’s on her computer – even if she didn’t know how they got on there,” are suing the Russian MP3 sharing site AllOfMP3.com for 1.65 trillion dollars. In case that sounds like a lot of money, you’d be wrong. Because in Russian Rubles it would be 43.378995 trillion rubles. OK, that’s the same amount of a lot of money.
Yearly music sales for the major labels is only $40 billion worldwide or roughly one fortieth of the sought reimbursement. Granted that the attorneys in this case, if their pipe dreams come true, will get a large chunk of that. So maybe a handful of attorneys join the world’s wealthiest billionaires, displacing Bill Gates as most hated human being because everyone else is jealous, or maybe this silly site is going to disappear, the Russians will not pay a ruble, and the RIAA will go about suing grandmas, teenagers, and complaining that music sales keep dropping because of the Internet. Surely no one could possibly be buying less music because they don’t want another Britney Spears album, they never wanted a Paris Hilton album, and they also did not want another new album for the asking price of $18.00 a disc. Oh, and nobody even whispered in dark rooms or in back alleys that they wanted a Kevin Federline album.
I of course keep knocking out number one hits like there’s no tomorrow. Like this.
Easy Pickin’s
OK, so commentary on CNN articles is not as uncommon on this blog as I’d have thought it would be. But when they write articles like this one talking about bad statistical analysis, its hard not to say something. I quote, “More than nine out of 10 Americans, men and women alike, have had premarital sex, according to a new study.” You do the math: someone’s leg is engaging in premarital sex without the rest of their body. Either that or their over-simplification of the percentage means that they stink at evaluating the quality of the statement. One more than nine is ten [if you didn’t know that before, I doubt you’re reading this]. Therefore saying more than nine out of ten would be like saying more than zero out of one. If you use a whole number ratio make sure that the whole numbers add up. The reason that the report later says 95% is because 95% works in a 100% scenario. If the number had been ninety percent, then I’d be OK with things, or maybe even 80%, but no, they had to involve appendages and non-whole bodies engaging in sex.
And I think that’s just wrong 😉
An Economic Theory Worth Reading
I just read a very interesting article on economic theory: Mind the Gap by Paul Graham. Nick Bradbury linked to it from his blog. Give it a read and do leave a comment here if you agree or disagree. Think it through and re-read it. Its worth pondering. I figure that the worst case scenario is that you’ll come out liking tractors more than horses… or something like that.
RSS is the Bomb
Its been a while since I’ve mentioned RSS here. Mostly so that my parents will continue to read this blog. They’re probably tired of me telling them to buy an Apple computer and that they should use RSS. RSS is like speed for your web browsing if you keep track of many, many sites. Anyhow, Nick Bradbury announced on his blog that FeedDemon is $10.00 off right now: read the post, then buy the software.
Energy Efficiency?
My friend Robin sent me this link (which I apparently missed on fark) :http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1559489.ece. I’m amazed that we’re now turning human fat into bio-diesel. Its a realm I had never considered, but it reminds me of soylent green. It’s people.

US Apparently Needs More Space
I just read this article on the BBC about the United States new Space bill. What a joke! How on Earth [apologies for the pun] are we going to justify to the international community that we
- Need to control the space outside of our planet
- Know exactly where our international space boundaries are (everywhere?)
- Are not developing weapons to blow everyone else out of space except for the chosen few that we think should also be in space – when we like them to be
- Can monitor commercial flights into space in a friendly way for them [in other words we’re really nice for letting them send commercial or otherwise flights into OUR space]
I love being a United States citizen for the rights I have. I hate that we’re so arrogant that we think we can ‘claim’ outer space for our own. Brilliant.
Engineer It!
We went to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science yesterday and they have a traveling exhibit called “Engineer It!” Wow! What a great, great exhibit. I was totally floored by the great sections involving hands on activities for kids to really dig into science, engineering, and fun. I told one friend that I wanted to come back without the kids and have a go by myself since I could probably design an amazing rocket that flies 100 feet with pressurized air and get my name on a sticker up on the wall 😉
If this exhibit comes to your town and you have children between 3 and 103 (please tell me you don’t have children that are 103 years old) you should go. It’ll be here in Denver until January 1st – so get there if you have time!
For My Birthday…Wait, Forget My Birthday!
For my birthday on Monday I would love for the readers of this blog to post in the comments at least one good thing that has happened to them in the last week (that is G rated 🙂 ). I just looked at the news headlines from the BBC and I just don’t like the death, destruction, and debt being reported around the world and adding to that the detention of Lou Diamond Phillips. It’s just a bit much…
This just in! Adeline Grace White was born this morning at O-Dark-Thirty! The Whites announced that Jillia was preggers and then shuffled off to the Carolinas in search of a home closer to family and tropical storms. But finally, after what has probably been yet another eternal experience of pregnancy, Jillia went into labor last night. Congrats Whites!! Thanks for the new little girl to admire. And Ella, you keep things updated on the website while your parents recouperate 🙂
