Things, Goings On, and Stuff I write

FlyPDX

I’m in the Portland Airport. PDX. They have free wi-fi! Superb since I was worried that we’d have nothing to do while we board. I suspect that it will work while boarding as well, but as it is I’m typing one handed with a sleeping munchkin in my left hand/arm.

Oh, and FlyPDX is the network name 🙂

Herding Home

We’ll be heading home tomorrow (Friday). We’ve been here in Washington State for 15 days as of tonight and its been great fun. I’ve learned some neat things about carpentry as well as had a chance to help with some network/technical stuff that my step-father-in-law needed done. Its going to be good to get home though because I’ve got lots of stuff to do and there’s something wonderful about being in my own bed, even if that is the familiar sounds of a house I’m more familiar with.

Thanks to all who participated in this Christmas with us, we had a blast and can’t wait for 2006 to show us what is in store.

GoodWill == Good Income?

Apparently up here (I’m on vacation in Washington) Charitable Organizations pay well. Granted that they seem to be doing good business, but I don’t think that GoodWill should be paying people orders of magnitude more than other employees who seem to be doing ‘quite well for themselves ‘at minimum wage. I guess that when most of what you get comes at 0 cost you can make some pretty good markup on it 🙂

Change Your Underwear… Switch Your Foot

So I was working away on the couch here in WA, Jessica was nursing Evie and watching the TLC show “Yet Another Home Tweaking Show Where We Surprise Someone By Blatantly Lyeing to Them.” A commercial ‘break’ came on and I immediately looked up because I recognized the Switchfoot song “Adding to the Noise.” Ironically the song is about turning off the noise that the culture throws at you (television, radio, and anything else that’s distracting to life). The commercial? Victoria’s Secret! Weird.

The White Christmas That Almost Was

Here in the Northern Hemisphere our Christmases have a bit of a chance to actually be white in December (see: Phil does Chritmas in Australia). We had 1.5 inches of snow last night, but this is Washington state so promptly after dropping frozen precipitation it switched to rain. Therefore the white Christmas was replaced with a slush Christmas. Which really doesn’t have the same ring to it, unless you’re a 911 operator, in which case you just get different phone calls about the same goofballs doing the different crazy things.

My Clock is Tacking

I have been all screwed up in my sleep pattern lately. I got about 2 hours of sleep between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Wednesday to Thursday I got about 7 hours and then last night I made up for it by going to bed at 8:30 and getting up at 6:00. I’m feeling better now and am ready to face Washington… even if they’re not ready for me 😉

‘Splosion

On the news now they just had a ‘breaking news story.’ Wherein a boiler exploded at an apartment complex. One man was hurt with minor injuries and another refused medical attention. People are all fine and the complex is not severaly damaged. That’s breaking news if I’ve never heard it before.

Hitching Up the Covered Wagon

We’ll be taking the Oregon Trail to Portland and then heading up to my in-laws North of Vancouver, Washington tomorrow. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to go to Mount St. Helen or maybe I can get some cement boots and swim with the fishes in the Columbia river. I’m going to be helping with some finish work around my in-laws’ house and then we’ll probably all just sleep for a few days because we can.

For those of you whom are worried about me working… I should be doing so for at least part of the time on the trip. Blogging may be lighter than normal, but probably not. I’m often inspired whilst in the mountains, hills and valleys.
