Look What the Wind Just Blew In

This weekend my dad helped me install four new vents in our attic and then assisted me in blowing in 25 bails of cellulose insulation.  We can already tell a big difference in the warmth of our house, and in the summer the vents will help by allowing the heat to circulate out of the attic space and allow our swamp cooler to keep the house cooler with less power used.
Thanks, Dad! And thanks United States politicians for buying into the idea of tax credits that real citizens can use. Have you used your $500.00 tax credit yet? There’s one for next year, too that I’m hoping to use to insulate the garage to increase our house’s seal. Word on the streets has it that this will keep things even warmer in the house because less draft will be coming in this way, and it will also help keep the temperature of the garage more stable so that the car doesn’t burn up in the summer or get too cold in the winter. We’ll be living in a controlled environment 😉

Seriously though: take advantage of this credit! [Government Website Link Here]

The Anniversary Weekend Report

This weekend with Jessica was great!  We got from Friday evening to this afternoon close to 5:00 together with little to no interuptions.  Wow!  Wonderful!  Fantastic!  Lets do it again next weekend!  Between great food, great time talking, great amounts of shopping and great animals, it was just… well… great!  I can’t imagine being married to anyone but this beautiful woman whom I love.

Food:

  • Starbucks has a new Maple Latte.  This is a terrific autumn treat.
  • Cracker Barrel Pecan Pancakes (with maple syrup).  They pile some pecans on the pan and then pour batter over them.  Whoo!  Good stuff.
  • Ted’s Montana Grill had Bison ribs.  I enjoyed them a lot!
  • Macaroni Grill had a well rounded Italian lentel soup.  Get this.  It has proscutto and is just warm and hearty.

Shopping

  • Scored two shirts.  One a dress shirt and one a t-shirt.
  • Jessica got some ear-rings and other stuff at Claire’s.  She also really wanted some stuff at this shop called White House | Black Market.
  • We scored some books at Barnes & Noble
  • We got two stuffed animals for the girls at the Colorado Springs Zoo

Cool other things:

  • Jessica got to feed the giraffes at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo [picture of a giraffe there]
  • iPods are an awesome way for us to carry way too much music on trips like this
  • I scored the White Stripes album De Stijl
  • Jessica listened to two of my silly rap songs that I’ve written for birthdays [2, 1] and didn’t kill me for being associated with rap
  • Saw Adam Sandler’s movie ‘Click’ and was actually inspired.  Amazing.

I love my wife!  She’s awesome.  I can’t wait to be married to her for 80 years.  Speaking of which congrats to my grandparents for 60 years of marriage!

Pardon Me Whilst I Hurl in Public

I was just reading a new article on CNN and have to disagree with one of the statements that a relative of the shooter at the Amish School.  The relative says, “…that Charles Roberts was not an evil person. That he was a deeply troubled man…” Yack!  Barf!  Hurl!  You don’t admit that you’ve molested children [see bottom of article], then kill some, and get called ‘troubled.’  The Biblical position is that man is ensnared and drawn towards Evil (see Genesis 6:5, 8:21;Romans 1 and 6), thus making man’s desires pulled towards evil at the start, but then to have someone act out evil thoughts in a real and violent way and then call them troubled?

Sure, some people dont’ believe what the Bible says about various things, and I’ll grant each person the right of having an opinion, but this moral scenario steps into each of our homes and demands of us deep, personal relationships with all of our family members. Know your spouse so well that when they’re wrestling with things you know it, and seek counseling so that when these sorts of urges, problems and confessions of past sins (molestation is absolutely wrong, 100% of the time) come up they can be delt with in a redirected manner towards resolution.  Then, after you know your family, get to know your neighbors.  Be a friend to them.

This event has challenged me to want to be a better dad, a better husband, and a better neighbor.  By being someones friend and helpful, trustworthy confidant you and I may just help prevent the next school shooting.

Happy Anniversary, Jessica!

Jessica and I have been married for 8 years as of today.  Sure, technically we got married around 7:00 PM Pacific time, but we could the whole day to reduce pressures given the time zone difference 😉

Amazing what can happen in eight years.  I never knew that most of my life would happen the way that it has, but its been so much better for the most part, than what I could have dreampt up.  And marrying Jessica is part of that.  Thanks, Lord, for my wife and two daughters and eight great years of marriage!

Engineer It!

We went to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science yesterday and they have a traveling exhibit called “Engineer It!”  Wow!  What a great, great exhibit.  I was totally floored by the great sections involving hands on activities for kids to really dig into science, engineering, and fun.  I told one friend that I wanted to come back without the kids and have a go by myself since I could probably design an amazing rocket that flies 100 feet with pressurized air and get my name on a sticker up on the wall 😉
If this exhibit comes to your town and you have children between 3 and 103 (please tell me you don’t have children that are 103 years old) you should go.  It’ll be here in Denver until January 1st – so get there if you have time!

For My Birthday…Wait, Forget My Birthday!

For my birthday on Monday I would love for the readers of this blog to post in the comments at least one good thing that has happened to them in the last week (that is G rated 🙂 ).  I just looked at the news headlines from the BBC and I just don’t like the death, destruction, and debt being reported around the world and adding to that the detention of Lou Diamond Phillips.  It’s just a bit much…

This just in!  Adeline Grace White was born this morning at O-Dark-Thirty!  The Whites announced that Jillia was preggers and then shuffled off to the Carolinas in search of a home closer to family and tropical storms.  But finally, after what has probably been yet another eternal experience of pregnancy, Jillia went into labor last night.  Congrats Whites!!  Thanks for the new little girl to admire.  And Ella, you keep things updated on the website while your parents recouperate 🙂

Switched-Up Sports

Abby and I went to her second week of ‘switched-up sports’.  The last two weeks have been soccer.  We’ll do soccer again on Wednesday – next week will start tee-ball.  This is her introduction to various sports, but tonight things were not team oriented.  Hopefully Wednesday they’ll let the kids play ‘bunch ball’ (soccer, but at their ages, they all follow the ball instead of staying in their positions).

Cuteness happened.  Balls were kicked all over the basketball court (yes, basketball court), and Abby ran her little heart out.  I can’t wait until Wednesday 🙂

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I wrote this post already, only the dogs of the internets deemed it not capable of going up.  Further, I have enhanced this poste with more miss spellings [no, not Tori].  My mother turned older than five months yesterday, and since you are not supposed to ask someone older than five months how old they are I will simply say that I am turning 29 in one week and she is older than me. We went to dinner last night with my parents to celebate.  I have posted a few pishdurs bellow [SIC].
