Parts of the Body

Abby discovered more about being a little girl this week. She touched herself in the private girl part and looked inquisitively at me. Why me Lord? Why didn’t she ask her mommy? So I explained that it was a v*gina which Abby was pleased to know as she instantly parroted back, “‘agina?” I affirmed this close enough pronounciation. The worst part is that now she’s touching it when on the potty and reminding us of its name.

Then, yesterday after I had showered from working out, she burst in on me in the buff and immediately spotted my ‘manacles.’ So we covered that territory, too. Being a dad of an inquisitive (almost) two year old is sure fun. I can’t wait until she asks where babies come from 🙂

Abby Knows Sunglasses

I reallize that the title is probably not a strong reference to Bo Jackson for most people, but since I spent a lot of money (along with my brother who probably spent even more than I did) to collect a huge amount of Bo Jackson collectors cards only to have him fade into nothing, the reference means something to me. Abby insisted she bring her sunglasses with her to church this morning and on the way to church she put them on. Upside down. With the arms of the glasses pointing up underneath her ears. It was priceless and I had no way to photograph it. However, she was surely cute and I had to share.

Picking Your Nose

This morning Abby picked her nose while in bed with us (getting nothing substantially thank goodness) and I pulled her finger out and said, “We don’t pick our noses.” She quickly re-instered her finger and said, “I smell funny.”

The Pool. The Zoo. The Girl.

Tomorrow we’re going to the zoo – hopefully I’ll get some good pictures. I need to get more pictures of Abby up. Jessica has started braiding her hair into little pig-tails, so I’ll try to get some pictures of that. She’s a cute little girl but she’s got (insert one of her parents’) constitution 😉 She’s a strong willed little girl and I think she’s going to make being a dad a challenge but also a blessing.

Today she ran right to the edge of the swimming pool and almost jumped in Jessica and I were both sitting at the tables and Jessica got up to try to stop her while Krystal ran after Abby (Krystal was closer). Abby stopped right at the edge, which was better than jumping in – but she didn’t get that she could have been injured. I love this little girl but my goodness she needs to have some fear.

Fellow Ship

This evening we went over the the Doyle’s house for dinner. I’ve written about Mike a few times on this blog, he and his wife, Donna have a son John. John plays guitar and will be accompanying me Sunday the fifteenth when we’ll be leading the music at church. Anyway, we had a grand time and really enjoyed the fellowship with them. Abby adores Donna and really enjoyed the time over all.

What Abby did that was most funny was go swimming in the dog Trixter’s water. Trixter’s water bowl is a large kid’s pool. So seeing the oportunity to ‘swim’ she climbed right in – clothes and all – to go swimming. Fortunately the water was fresh and Donna offered to throw Abby’s clothes in the dryer. Abby ate dinner, which was fabulous, in her diapers and then went to play in the water some more.

John and I practices for 45 minutes or so and figured out where each of us needed to practice further so that next week we can practice again and prepare ourselves for the 15th.

After that we had a delightful dessert and then commensed talking about New England. Jessica and I have wanted to go there since our Honeymoon (we wanted to go there on our honeymoon) and Mike and Donna have been several times.

Good times were had and we didn’t end up leaving until around 9:30 – Abby was absolutely cute, I told her to say, “Bye-bye, thanks for the hospitality.” And she almost got it out clearly 😉

A Poem

I determined this morning
When I awoke
I’d write a poem for this blog
No joke
I don’t know why
I think it’s funny
but I like to write
and be quite punny

The Abigator
is playing aloud
in the front room
with an animal crowd
She’s making them laugh
and jump through hoops
And flinging them through
the air with scoops**

I’ve read her books
and books today
I enjoy the one about a moose,
to say
She likes to hear me
read and speak
And climb her to
a mountain peak

**a plastic toy shovel

The Park

This afternoon, after work I took Abigail to the park by our apartment. She is getting so big it freaks me out. She slid down the little slide face first and then climbed up the ladder multiple times by herself (though I stood right there ready catch her in case she slipped) and she went down the big slide many times (“Again Daddy?”). It looked like it might rain so we went to nearby shelter of Microcenter, a computer store.

There Abby wanted to buy so many pretty, colorful things. She almost talked me into buying a Mac 😉 However, my fear of having to explain to Jessica why I bought it followed by having to return it to Microcenter made me change my mind.

Two for One

This morning Abby got up early again while I was doing Bible study, but she came out looking so cute (we left her pig-tails in her hair over night) that I took a moment or two to snuggle her.

Later in the morning I got her a cup of milk and she paused from drinking it. Because she was just standing there with her blanket in one hand and her cup of milk in the other I asked, “What are you doing? Are you going to the bathroom?”

“No.”

“Are you drinking your milk?”

“No.”

“What are you doing then?”

“I’m holding my blanket.” [Duh, dad]

Later she found a penny and was holding it. I explained to her that it was a penny (which I think made it more valuable). Then I grabbed a handful of change out of my pocket and began to tell her the names of the different coins. I told her that a nickel was worth five pennies, and that a quarter was worth five nickels or twenty-five pennies. Then a dime was worth two nickels and ten pennies. She soaked up all of this information and then I gave her another nickel and said, “Here’s another nickel.”

With great excitement in her eyes she said, “Another Nickel!” and sat down and marveled at all of the coins. I remember being that excited about things so simple, and I thank the Lord for the joy this little girl brings to our lives. What amazes me is that she will be two next month and twenty the month after that (at at least it seems that way).

Eels and Escalators

This morning Abby wanted an eel. Not just any eel, but the red one with spots on it. Grandpa looked blankly at the counter where Abby was pointing wondering what the eel was. It is my duty as a father to know what it is she wants: dice. There were two dice on the counter and Abby wanted them to play eels and Escalators. Eels and Escalators is a game on a Sponge Bob Squarepants episode (“Sailor Mouth” for those of you keeping track).

Who’d’a thunk it?
