The Fish Formerly Known as Shody

Shody went to be with his parents this morning. Abby had this little pet for less than a week. We don’t know exactly what killed Shody, but we’ll be replacing him/her/it with a gold [orange] goldfish tomorrow afternoon. Shody was flushed around 9:30 and showed very little resistance to the swirling drain. He/She/It will be missed for a short while until the new fish comes into play. Abby was upset when I said that Shody went to be with his parents. She said:

But Shody asked his mommy and daddy if they could come play with Abby. They said, “Yes, Sweety.”

Jessica and I were really, really sad when she said that, it was very disturbing for her to lose her first pet so soon.

Happy Birthday Abby!

Abby is three! And I love her very, very much 🙂 She has received lots of presents, cards, and various other things. Here is a sophisticated outfit she got from her Grandpa and Grandma Peer (and her aunts there as well!).
Princess Abby

She’s getting bigger and keeps telling us so. What a cutie pie!

First Pet

Abby has now gotten her first pet. Given my personal track record with animals I have high hopes of spending many more trips with Abby to purchase $0.12 goldfish.
Abby and Showdy
This ‘black’ goldfish is named Shody (pronounced like Show-Dee). Abby kept wanting to call the fish Goldy but Jessica and I kept telling her that Goldy was a poor choice for a black fish. So she blurted out with great excitement: Shody.

The upside in all of this is that Jessica is pleased with the quietness of the aquarium. We don’t know where the aquarium will reside, but we do know that Shody has outlived some of the goldfish I owned already 🙂

Polly, You’re a Thane

Last night I put the first of many coats of polyurethane on our cabinet doors. This morning… more polyurethane, lunch time and dinner will also hold more polyurethane. Late tonight will be the last coat and then early tomorrow morning I will re-assemble our kitchen and then mow the lawn, milk the cows, collect the chicken eggs, slop the pigs, grill some chicken and then the people should be hear for the party to celebrate Abby turning 3 [which actually happens on Monday].

Whew. I’m not bored 🙂

Cut the Cheese, Daddy

This morning after riding my bike Abby asked me to come downstairs with her and play kitchen. I agreed as I haven’t played kitchen with her in a very long time (yes, I’m a neglectful dad in the playing kitchen department, for some reason I feal ill equipped for this task). She carefully hand-selected a block of plastic cheese, a plastic red delicious apple and placed them in her clear-vision pot. She placed the pot on the burner which immediately erupted with the sound of boiling water. The water reached its peak boiling temperature and she grabbed the scalding foods out of the pot and placed them onto a plate for me. She then got a knife and fork out and demanded I cut… the cheese.

Eh, Regardless

Dan Klass of The Bitterest Pill podcast noted the death of the comedian Freddy Soto. I had never heard of Freddy Soto before but the video clips on his site cracked me up [note: I’m not responsible for it and you’ll want to have discernment…]. One of which involved the phrase ‘Eh, Regardless.’ You’ll have to watch the clip to understand.

I said it in front of Abby and she repeated it over and over on the airplane until Jessica and I were nearly crazy. It’s funny now, but on the ‘plane I wanted to get her to stop.

In fact, ‘Regardless’ became the anti-word for my sister-in-law, Kelsey’s ‘Seriously.’ Every time she said seriously we would retort with regardless. In fact by the end of the week we would have a banter of something like:
Kelsey: …Seriously.
John: Stop.
Me: Regardless.
John: I’m not even kidding.

Yes, that’s slightly bizaare, but that’s what you’ve come to expect on this here blog. Seriously.

Special Sauce

For the record, fine employees of “Old McDonald’s” [as Abby calls it], the special sauce ceases to be special when my hamburger patties are swimming in it.

That is all… please carry on, only with less ‘special’ sauce.

Snuggle as a Family

This morning Abby crawled into bed with us and wanted all three of us to snuggle together. As we cuddled and Abby rambled on about something cute, but slightly incoherent, I thought about how my family will change come Evy’s arrival. It’s quite an honor to be a father, and its also quite an honor to be the father of two girls. What an amazing blessing to be married to Jessica as well.

I’m blessed.

An Easy Mistake

Abby just got up out of bed (it is bed time). She called out, “Daddy! Daddy! Did you hear the ant?” I replied in the negative. She said, “I heard the ant. I made a mistake with the ant and the airplane.” I asked if she mistook the airplane for an ant. “Yeah, I thought the airplane was an ant, Daddy.”

An easy mistake – one we could all make 🙂
