Going to Visit a Client in Washington

I’m going to visit a client in Washington state for a little over a week. If you need me you can reach me at on my cell phone or email [see Contact Us]. I’m hoping to also get some cool photos as well. We’ll be staying with my in-laws so that should be good, hopefully they’ll get a good Abby fix.

I will most likely help them on their new house as well, which is great, I love manual labor. They’ve got a roof, walls and trees up there, hopefully the rest of the house will just auto-magically show up so that they can move in sooner than later.

Any-who, I’ll be away from Denver, but not unreachable by any stretch.

The Switch Has Happened

OK, the switching of hosts happened, and thanks to the excellent staff at Net River the switch was painless. The only bit of data that I’ve not transfered is the database data for this blog’s StatTraq installation. I decided that the size of the table made it not worth transferring. Therefore, I’m starting over with the table’s data and will probably keep it trimmed as best as possible for speed reasons.

I’m Switching Teams

OK, I’m changing my hosting provider to the excellent Net River. Once things are all switched over the service will most likely not be interrupted. However, I make no promises about the next 24-48 hours in which anything could happen.

Garden of the Gods

When we went down to Colorado Springs last month for our anniversary we went to the Garden of the Gods. This afternoon we drove down with my mom and I got to take more pictures. I’ve uploaded some of them onto my Flickr.com account.

Next Superman Movie to Be Filmed in Australia

In this article Brandon Routh is Superman you can read that the filming of the next Superman movie will be taking place in Australia. I expect Phil Boardman to keep us all abreast of the latest Superman filming happenings since Australia is so small 😉 My only fear in all of this is that we’ll get a Superman movie that has Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee), Steve Erwin (The Crocodile Hunter) and a CGI Christopher Reeves (if you don’t know who this is then you’ve obviously not seen the news that ‘the original’ Superman died*) all with cameos.

* or that his wife cheapened his death recently by throwing his name around at a John Kerry rally – sorry about that, I was just disgusted by this lame political maneuver and what looked like a disrespectful action on her part.

Is ‘Dexter’ the Movie Coming?

Nick Bradbury, software author and RSS philosopher, at one point in time wrote a comic strip called ‘Dexter.’ As has recently happened in the last years movie studios have been clamoring for comic book and comic strip based movies. After the Fantastic Four, X-Men III, Beatle Bailey and Garfield II are released will we see Dexter the Movie? I think Nick and I would both agree that it would be better for them to bring Fawlty Towers back 🙂

There’s Something About That Voice

I have not liked Third Day since I heard them the first time. I never could quite pin down what it was for some time. Then I discerned that Mac Powell’s singing was a major part of the problem. Then, after even more time today I realized that it was his modulation and the fact that he pronounces words like Sean Connery. If you listen to him singing you will hear shertain wordsh and shoundsh that just scream lishp.

What Do Ballerinas Wear on Their Feet?

They wear Balleret shoes. That’s a combination ballerina and ballet. My little girl cracks me up with her silly words, even if she says them with all seriousness. A day will come when she knows more ‘real’ words and we’ll be sad. Of course if she was still saying balleret at 15 I’d start to worry 🙂

Watch them ‘Subjunct’

In the English language we have several different moods a verb can convey two critical moods are subjunctive and indicative. It is important that you understand what those two moods reflect on the factual nature of a statement. A subjunctive mood implies a contingent or hypothetical nature for the statement. For example the statement, “I might have said that,” implies uncertainty and is very non-commital. Indicative is very fact based and attempts to state things with a definite feeling. This doesn’t make the sentence true by itself but it does convey some sense of certainty. You might here someone say, “I didn’t say that,” and give a feeling that the statement was not correctly quoted.

Now, why do I care about grammar? Greek class for one, but also because the politicians are heaping great amounts of trash onto the bonfire of American politics trying to use smoke and jeerers to position themselves higher in innacurate polls and public opinion. What I’d suggest, other than attempting to actually listen, even if it’s to the party you don’t favor, is that you diagram sentences, analyze what is being said/spewed and listen for words that are indicative or subjunctive. Not only will this help you here and now with the upcoming election, but if you get selected for a jury you’ll be extra cool and you can wow the other jurors with your slick hair and grammatical pontifications.
