ChristianExodus.org is a site I’m behind. No, wait, I’m laughing behind their backs (until they read this, and then I’m going to boldly laugh in front of them). Why? Oh, why do we need this sort of thing? Those who disagree with the conservative viewpoints this group holds are most likely going to be thrilled to see them leave. This is certainly not Biblical from my understanding of the scriptures. If we’re called to go out into the world to reach people for Jesus Christ how do we do that from our own state? This is unfortunate.
“The three States under consideration are Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina.”
Ohhh. Suddenly, it all makes sense.

My question for this group of extremists is this: How can we go out into and preach the gospel, living our lives for Him to bring the Lost into Heaven, if we are living totally separate from them? In my way of thinking it is an extremely mixed up group of people. Or they just may be too weak and Biblically uninformed to be able to live in the world, but not be part of it. How do people get so misguided?
I will let ChristianExodus.org’s FAQs page answer the comments above:
“How does being politically bonded to evil people cause us to be more effective missionaries? If it does, then we should be seeking a one-world government so we can be effective the world over. … Yielding our freedoms and sovereignty to a centralized government does not further the propagation of the Gospel when that government is evil. … We are to be “salt and light” no matter where we are located. There is no Biblical mandate about our location other than that we witness to the world. The suggestion that we must share a government with people in order to witness to them is preposterous. Christians have not been “salt and light” in the U.S. Evil laws (and court rulings) are the norm in our nation and have been forced upon all 50 States against their will, and Christians have failed to reverse any of them. Fort-four million babies have been aborted while we were supposedly being “salt and light”. Perhaps the statistic that 88% of the children raised in evangelical homes leave church at the age of 18 never to return is indicative of our prowess at being “salt and light” (http://www/lewrockwell.com/yates/yates94.html).”
And apparently the “United States of America” should never have been created, since the 13 original colonial states had to secede from England? Mr. Peterman, if you and your readers would actually take the time to read the facts regarding ChristianExodus.org’s positions, you would find that they have no intention of “holing up” in South Carolina. They simply want to live in a place that actually IS a constitutional republic, like our country was at one time, and supposedly is today in theory (but clearly not in action). I recommend taking some time to educate yourself before making ignorant statements, politically and scripturally.
For the record, I went to seminary at Tyndale Theological Seminary to educate myself scripturally. And also for the record I’m going to read even more information on this movement and then maybe I’ll write an in-depth post on it.
I was raised an Irish Catholic in Boston and remain a practicing Catholic on the east coast of Florida with my husband and 6 kid. To all you “Born Agains” out there, we Catholics have also been “Born Again” to spite any propaganda you may have been taught. We don’t worship statues, etc., etc. so get that out of your head.
Anyway, I just found out about Christian Exodus.org and am fairly intrigued. I agree with Brittney, in that, my family and I and our relatives are feeling more and more like outsiders in our own country. Everyday on the news I am confronted by evil. Liberal groups trying to convince themselves and others that black is white and white is black. My father, who is 84, a devout Catholic and devoted to my mom (they have been married 61 years) is afraid for us, but mostly for our children. He predicted the rise of homosexuals, abortion, shacking up, divorce, and the use of unborn babies for genetic research years and years ago. In talking and observing people in my neighborhood, I see it is all around me. People living together, not under the Sacrament of Marriage, more and more young women having babies but not getting married (apparently they and the “men” they sleep with are old enough to have sex, but too young for marriage???), people who have no religious foundations at all and who are raising children with no religious or moral backgrounds. If you say that your child can’t do something because they have to go to church, they get a puzzled look on their face. That’s not to say that all people are like this. My church is packed on Sundays, and with a lot of young families to boot! (If you were to believe the media, you would think that Catholic churches are declining, when the oppposite is true.) It is just starting to feel more and more like “us” against “them”. The them being the media, hollywood stars and the like who often use their popularity to further the cause of a God-less world that they live in. The ads on TV, the movies, the music, and some of the clothes advertised for kids are all serving this cause, making our kids numb to what’s right and wrong. Yes, there is a definite right and wrong if you are a moral person. No one is perfect, we are all sinners, and we, as parents, have to point out these deceptions to our kids so they will be able to discern the lines they should not cross. It is getting harder and harder to do so, however, and I can understand Christians wanting to live among people with the same sane and normal values as themselves. This does conflict a bit with the Bible. Jesus did use the parable of the wheat and the chafe, the good and the bad, growing and living together, then to be separted at the harvest, or at the final Judgement Day. I understand this, but living with people of similar moral does not mean you have given up on non-believers. You still have to live by example and maybe that could still influence a person to become a believer. However, Christian parents also want to be able to raise their kids somewhere that does not label you as a “right-wing fanatic” simply because you espouse to the values that this country was founded on. I am not sure that this Christian Exodus.org would even allow Catholics? I would never give up my Faith, even for a non-denominational sect of Christianity. However, if a Catholic church was part of the neighborhood, I might be interested.
come out from amongst them, should be the call, we have believed the lie that we can mingle with evil and not be touched by it, use common sense, you cant play with fire for very long without getting burnt sooner or later, we may as well be tossing our children into the fire like they did in the old testatment, those idols and gods the world worships will take hold of you and your children, we are to be a light to the world, not join the darkness, you cant expect to not be touched by the evil in this world, when it surrounds you, even Jesus had to get away to himslef now and then, and pray, we are far from being like Jesus today, and more likely to get burnt than not in this day we live in, thank God for his grace and mercy, he knows the world he has sent us into, he will keep us, but we also have to use common sense.
Richard,
Are you an Israelite living in Old Testament times temporarily transported to 2008 for a brief visit to the future? Because otherwise you’re not under the Old Testament law. You should check out Galatians. Also Paul was all things to all people. People he was in and around. Are you empowered to live by the Holy Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit capable of preserving you in times of trial and suffering? Can He preserve you from evil? I think so.
If you want to be truly separate you’ll want to consider moving to an island for isolation. You might join an Amish community. But even they interact with the world.
