Symantec Anti-Virus
So we use this anti-virus software here at work by Symantec [Corporate Edition]. It’s horrible. I turn off it’s ‘real time scaning’ feature so that I can use Source Control software and in 30 minutes it turns itself back on. No matter how I turn it off (from the task bar or from the program’s less than intuitive control panel) it comes back. It’s like this thing I can’t kill. I want it on there most of the time, but this recurring problem is really annoying. My source software slows to a crawl with it on. I love Anti-Virus for protection, but does it have to come at the cost of my computer not working? You can’t get virii on your machine if it doesn’t work 🙂
Modem Still on Order
Qwest, being the sort of company that prides itself for quality customer service, magically cancelled my modem order this week. Friday I ordered it (to fix my connectivity issue with the old modem I got from SBC) and asked that it be shipped next-day on Monday. Well, being that Tuesday is the next day after Monday I waited to call them until Tuesday night when the modem didn’t get here. The helpful person on the other end of the phone informed me the order had been canceled. She didn’t know why, or who I should shoot after finding, the order had simply been canceled. Anyway, she helped me get another one on order immediately – overnighted again. So, this one should get here tomorrow (Thursday) some time. Hopefully in the morning.
I called just now to make sure it was still on order, it is.
Good Theology
There are some good theological papers, articles and books at www.withchrist.org. Definitely recommend the daily devotional. I’m working on converting that devotional into an RSS feed for daily edification… of myself, but hope others would read it as well.
Old Age
The woman that lives across the hallway from my parents is in her nineties. Apparently sometime in the last day or two she thrashed her apartment and about 20 minutes ago the paramedics carried her away on a gurny (I probably didn’t spell that right). She was a sweet woman and would always tell my (50 year old mom) that she should be a model. I’m hoping that she’s all right, but I also hope that she’ll do OK if they have to move her to an ‘old folks home.’ My mom will surely visit her if she does have to move, but I hope that others in her family would, too.
13 going on Bored
So tonight Jessica and I went on a date and watched 13 Going on 30. Wow, what a total chick-flick mind numbing experience. Jessica enjoyed it but I found myself completely bored except for the part where they danced to Thriller by Michael Jackson. Jessica is a wonderful wife and I’d sit through “13go30” 5 more times with her without any fuss, but man, couldn’t the writers come up with a plot line? There was no surprises, no twists and formulaic doesn’t begin to describe the ‘story line.’
On the upside there really wasn’t that much swearing, there wasn’t too much in the way of sexual content and there’s something funny about a bunch of adults dancing to a Michael Jackson video. However, the bad side is the adultery, lying, back-stabbing and excessive use of nose-job jokes. I also think that the use of the Talking Heads and then immediately making fun of them was a bad choice… there were far worse bands that could have been made fun, especially since Burning Down the House is a pretty good rock standard.
Oh, well. I hope that the gals who watch it enjoy it and I hope that the guys who watch it with their gals love their gals as much as I love my bride!
Music
For the first time in a long time I started recording music again tonight. I have uploaded it onto the site. It’s a little different from what I’ve recorded before, and it’s not really mixed or mastered. However, I really like the sound, it’s mellow and words haven’t been written yet, I’m thinking of trying to write about Romans 8:19-21 as it was what I studied in the men’s Bible study at Holly Hills Bible Church this last Tuesday.
Good stuff there, Mike Doyle taught, and he’s a good teacher who is knowledgable in God’s Word. I was impressed by the fact that Christians are intimately tied to Christ in His death and resurrection. However, we’re also intimately tied to his glory as well! This was really neat when also tied to Paul’s next statement about how creation waits for Christ’s return so that it will be restored to it’s pre-fall state.
Anyway, it was good to study and I hope that next week’s work schedule turns out better than this last weeks, which was horrible due to my DSL not getting set up right. I have a new modem showing up this week on Tuesday that will hopefully correct the issue.
Resting in Him,
Randy
Snow!
It’s the first snow we’ve gotten since moving here – the bummer part is that Becky, my sister, is moving to Carson this week-end and they were planning on leaving tomorrow morning. We’ll see as the snow doesn’t appear to be keeping tracking of their schedule. Oh, ‘they’ refers to her fiance and future-father-in-law who are helping her move.
Happy Birthday Dad!
Happy Birthday Dad! Thanks for an awesome life that is a present beyond anything I could give you! Thanks for letting me steal your bandwidth. Thanks most for the blessing of my spiritual heritage! We love you so much and pray for the Lord’s return right along with you.
Abby says, “Happy Birthday To You!”… I think she wants some ice cream 🙂
Introducing 100 Year Domain Service
Network Solutions sent me an email saying that I could register www.randypeterman.com for 100 years to protect it from web squatters. Doh! That would be a brilliant scheme, I need to figure out how to get people to protect something for longer than their lifetime, and possibly longer than the lifetime of their company. I think that this is brilliant, and if I had my way I’d sell them insurance on it, too 🙂
