Things, Goings On, and Stuff I write

Evy Update

Last time I may or may not have mentioned that Evy had a cyst in her brain when we had the ultrasound. The Doctor and ultrasoundographer (is that a word) both assured us that it would be nothing… and they were right. Evy is doing well and her face and body are forming fantastically – we’re excited to have a healthy, if not overly wiggly, baby coming.

Just thought you’d like to know.

Oh, and I still have to set my scanner up so I can scan in the images they gave us.

I’ve Got Mail

I loath AOL in general, but their ubiquitous “You’ve Got Mail” quote lives on in my list of cultural idioms. Thus, I’ve got mail. A whole lot of it. This morning upon logging into my Thunderbird email client I had over 400 emails that needed to be scanned, deleted, processed, replied to or ignored. This is not a personal record but its going to slow my productivity a bit today. Such is life…

Oh, and for the record much of it can just be scanned, skimmed or ignored due to various email lists I subscribe to.

Back in Aurora

This last week was fun, and, despite the message my most recent Pordcast may have conveyed, we had a great time in a fun place. We’ve got a packed month ahead:

  • House work
  • Abby’s Birthday Party
  • An Ice Cream Social
  • preparation for Evy’s arrival and living in our place.

Do I plan on being bored? No 🙂

Cool

It is a cool day here and the temperature is actually below 70 right now. Sure, that means rain, but its nice to have the cooler weather. Oh, and yesterday’s Pordcast was not intended to insult Indiana – I just had to have a little fun.

It’s Getting Hot in Here

No, I’m not quoting the incredibly stupid Nelly song (though the next time you hear it, try imagining it being sung karaoke style by someone with an Indian accent, you will laugh milk out your nose). It was only 91 today. However, the heat index said that it felt like 103. And it did. It was hot. Sure, it could be hotter in other places but it was nice to be outside and then to go grab some Ritter’s Frozen Custard.

When I get back I’m going to listen to the lessons I’ve missed at church and then I’m going to write about them: Ephesians 5. Good stuff on Marriage I understand.

I just scared some poor 4th and 6th graders who were over at my in-laws place. I love doing that for some reason. They’re not sure how to handle a guy spouting quasi-intellectual phrases wearing a shirt that says,
Ha! Now You Can’t See Me!”

Good times.

Rich Dad Poor Dad

I just finished reading the book Rich Dad Poor Dad (Amazon Link). There’s lots of stuff to chew on in there. I didn’t get the impression of the book was about being one type of father or not, nor was it about being wealthy in the definition of “money out the wazoo.” Instead the real focus of the book was financial competancy. I disagreed with some of the author’s philosophy, but nothing severe enough to not recommend the book. In short my Christian worldview conflicted with some of his assertions, but over all the principles in the book seem sound and I’m really just left thinking about what I need to lear next. Not a bad place to end considering many books come across as having the answer. I definitely recommend this book and suggest that you give it a read through.

The book is very narrative and comes across more like you’re sitting at a table and your friend is sharing his life story with you rather than a list of ‘To Do’s.” Further, their is a recognition of your current situation. Rather than just saying that its time to jump out of your comfort zone and just do something he encourages readers to learn. I really like that. I’m ready to learn about lots of areas I know I’m weak in rather than just wallow in my inability. Being a self-starter type myself I found this book engaging because that is much of what the book talks about -> I’m not waiting for money to come to me, I’m not waiting to get filthy rich, I just want to take care of my family, my extended family as they get older, and be able to go visit relatives and take vacations to places I’ve never been. Oh, and it doesn’t recommend you leave your job, but be smarter with the money you make with your job.

One major focus is on assets. What assets do you have? I don’t really have any…yet. An asset generates revenue (by the author’s definition) where as a liability takes coninued resources. I’m going to have to look at my liabilities, see which ones can be trimmed and then start collecting assets – it’s just better that way.

This book gets 5 stars and I highly recommend it to readers of this blog.

Holding Pattern

Last night our plane almost landed in Indiana, but they decided that the storm wasn’t worth entering so we were up in a holding pattern for an hour. Our three our flight was supposed to be two hours. When we landed our luggage was wet, we were humid (have I mentioned Colorado is dry?) and it was late. Worst of all Abby hadn’t slept and was quite wired with excitement of seeing everyone. We’re awake now, but my goodness, what a trip to travel like that and then have to sleep in a new time zone!

More Explosions in London

London,
We feel for you. I’ll continue to pray for you and the people there. I hope they find the culprates [since these latest bombings don’t appear to be suicide bombers] and toast their manacles.
