Influences

Eric Meyer’s writes about his influences: Under The Influences. He thinks he’s not an influence. If it wasn’t for him and Jeffrey Zeldman my passion for web standards would not exist. On top of that Alt-N‘s site would in no way be standards compliant (OK, it took more than those two without Dave and Trint working so hard) because I would have never been interested in standards. I put a bug in Dave’s ear about standards and he screamed through DWWS and then anxiously awaited the new site design.

Eric, you’re an influence, be proud, but keep going: with your help some day Internet Explorer may see the light of web standards [or, it doesn’t hurt to think optimistically].

Biking Foiled

Today my dad and I were supposed to go mountain biking… and then the clouds rolled in with rain. Oh, well. Say, in case you didn’t go see them I put up pictures of the views from our apartment. Soon I’ll put up pictures of views inside our apartment. And then, maybe some day I’ll put up views from inside out of our apartment. Or not.

Playboy seeks Home Depot women

I’m thinking that this is just as wrong as the ‘Women of Walmart’ issue.
Playboy seeks Home Depot women for pictorial – May. 13, 2004

  • This is not liberating to women
  • It will degrade them into being objects
  • Try to ask, “May I help you?” to a construction worker who’s seen you in the buff and get anything but a come-on

I know I may not hold the majority view on this, but I don’t see it as being morally good, productive for a work environment, and I find it most frustrating on a biblical level. What men who look at Playboy are doing is engaging in adultery. What women who pose for Playboy are doing is being adulteresses. Yeah, that’s a good industry to work in.

Cute!

Yesterday evening while I was grabbing my [Colt’s] sweatshirt from the closet Abigail followed me in and reached over, grabbed the bottom of one of the things hanging on Jessica’s part of the rack and said, “Cute!” This cracked me up because she had learned that behavior. Where? With Mommy and Jillia at the mall earlier that day as they were looking at clothes 🙂

Also, as we were putting her to bed she first snuggled Jessica and then walked towards me. Then, all of the sudden she smiled really big and then turned and snuggled Jessica a second time. Then she turned towards me a second time and did the same thing, it wasn’t until Jessica’s third hug that I got my first. It’s tough being a dad 🙂

Wow! Read this.

A consulting firm that wants to do their work and leave. That is the typical attitude of a consultant. Get in, do the job and get out. Short term thinking. It is neet to see a consulting firm with a long term mindset in action. These guys were involved with the blogger.com redesign.
