Good “food” for thought. I definately agree with you. Our church plant has some new Christians that I want to get excited about serving. In our Women’s Meeting we had a long talk about how God’s will for our lives was “today”. I was encouraging them to give their time, money, talents, etc. for the Lord today rather than always waiting for that “perfect” moment. For example sharing the gospel with one person rather than waiting for the day you could speak at a crusade or if you feel lead to teach help out in Sunday school rather than waiting for the day you “preach” to a large group etc.
After that talk I wanted to help them figure out ways to plug in and thought maybe a spiritual gifts test could get them excited about some area of ministry. I have always found that the tests I have taken have been pretty true to where God uses me…even when he calls me out of comfort zone. (Like now!!)
Just like you mentioned the layers…I am hoping that as they serve the will begin to rub up against one another, be stretched and then have opportunity to truly feel the need for the “fruits of the Spirit”!
I am in complete agreement about needing to be filled so that out of overflow we produce amazing giftings and fruit that have nothing to do with us. I am just trying to get people out of their comfort zone not only so God is using them in their giftings, but as they are stretched they will see even more their need for Him and in that desperation seek and be filled.
