I've enjoyed reading everyones comments. To recap a few: We are all sinners and yes we still sin even as Christians. Yep, we have a new identity in Christ with tremendous blessings. Also, what we say about who we are will affect how we live.

My thoughts.
Therefore a believer should dwell on who they are in Christ and meditate on that. (Ephesians the whole book) However, at the same time the longer we are a Christian we should sin less frequently (as we repent and confess known sin), while at the same time becoming more aware of sin in our lives. The longer someone walks with God the more aware they are of sin in their life so there is also a place for greater introspection as we learn more about God and ourselves. Paul says in 1 Timothy 1:15 "The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost."
I have often wondered why Paul didn't say, "of whom I was the foremost." He speaks in the present tense, not the past. Because he has a greater awareness of his sin when writing to Timothy as a church leader then he did when he was persecuting the church. His perspective changed with his behavior.

So I have no problem with hearing someone call Christians sinners. I am more irritated that we have given men titles like "Reverend" when it should be reserved for God, but thats another issue. Thanks for posting and reading.

1 Peter 5:8: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour".
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.” Galatians 5:17 (New Living Translation)

Just a reminder of these two scriptures beacause we are aways fighting our flesh. This is the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus used these messages to us then and he doesnt lie. This is why we renew our self with christ everyday.

For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. But if I am doing the very thing I do not wish, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. (Rom 7:14-20,

there's not ONE SCRIPTURE in context, or in the correct grammatical tense, that shows, implies or says that a person that believes/receives/abides in Jesus Christ (saved "by grace through faith") IS a SINNER.
Jesus calls us brothers, friends & Sons of God.

A Different Perspective

Would you say that God made everything and everyone in heaven and on earth? Yes or No

Would you say that God has a purpose? Yes or No

Would you say that God has the capability of knowing the outcome of a situation or that he knows what the future holds? Yes or No

Most people would say YES to ALL THREE of the above questions.

Therefore, if you believe these things are true than consider the following:

God made man in his image and for his pleasure. However, God did not want to make man as a robot (only knowing good), for what pleasure can God receive from mere robots? A robot (only knowing good) wouldn't appreciate God for what he stands for. Rather an (only knowing good) person would just know good and would have know feelings attached to the matter.

Therefore God made man free to choose right and wrong. Free to make his or her own decisions. In fact, God made Adam and Eve with freedom of choice. Sure, God told Adam and Eve WHAT NOT TO DO....to not eat the forbidden fruit....the fruit of knowledge. But God knew that they would partake and he knew that it was necessary for them to partake in order for them to have a closer relationship with him.

If you don't know evil then how can you APPRECIATE the good? You couldn't! If you only knew good then you'd be nothing more than a robot only knowing good. If you only knew evil than you'd be nothing more than a robot only knowing evil. But if you have the knowledge of good and evil (which is Gods purpose for us) then you can experience good and evil and decide for yourself which side you want to be on.

That's what God wants. He wants his children to know him and understand him (to understand his moral character). To understand the consequences of sin and evil and to understand the outcome of righteousness. And the only way we can understand God and what he stands for is to have real life experiences of good and evil. It's these real life experiences that allow us to MAKE A CHOICE. It's these real life experiences that allow us to appreciate God's moral character. These experiences allow you to MAKE A CHOICE, TAKE A SIDE and STAND FOR SOMETHING.

Ultimately, God wants you to know him, to understand him, and to believe in his moral character. And God knew that this would NOT be possible without Man Knowing Good and Evil.

Therefore, and I know people will disagree, but God created man knowing that man would sin, and knowing that sin and the natural consequences thereof is what would bring man back to him, with a better understanding and a smiling appreciation for what God stands for.

Therefore, sin or Satan is nothing more than a tool in God's hand. A tool for a purpose. A tool to bring us to an appreciative understanding of his moral character. You see, that's what God wants from his children.....Not a Robot (only knowing good), but rather an intimate relationship with children that respect and love him for who he is.

GOD IS IN CONTROL!

The bible is Gods word. Every word came out of Gods mouth. If He says your a sinner, then you are. We all are sinners, even after we are saved, cause the bible says that their is only one that is perfect. As christians we sin every day. We all are sinners, even after we are saved, cause the bible says that their is only one that is perfect. As christians we sin every day. If you dont believe that then you call God a lier.

Amen Janiece! You nailed it!
Thanks for posting on this topic, Randy. It is such a prevalent problem, even common in otherwise sound denominations. My own pastor calls us (with love) sinners. I have written him on the subject, and pray that he will describe us Biblically, since, "as a man thinks, so is he." God bless!

Great conversation, this is a question I pondered myself for a while so that's why I ended up on this site. It says in scriptures that before we where saved we were all sinners under the old law/covenant, because when the law was created it was then when we could recognized sin as being sin because God, gave us direction of how we should conduct ourselves as His Holy people. Before that we could sin and God, did not necessarily hold us accountable as per the law because there was no law. He just told Adam and Eve, to not eat of the tree of knowledge but everything else they had dominion over. Case and point when Cain, killed Able, God, did not kill him but He banished him and Cain did not have to make a sacrifice to God, for his sinful act. It's not that sin was not around, God, just did not hold us as accountable as He did when He created the old law. Now it says throughout the scriptures that salvation was coming to all God's, people Jews and Gentiles, and they would become as one, which is in the spirit not the flesh....why is that? because of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior....Now comes the tricky part but yet not so tricky if you are reading this in the spirit and not the flesh. Jesus, came to reconcile our relationship with God, because the old law was not complete, case and point why would God, and the prophets say that there is one coming that would bring salvation to the world? I would summit that is was because the old law was not complete and that God, knew this when He created the law in the first place to help prepare us for the new covenant. And when Jesus, came into the world He was made flesh and spirit. For our sakes and He was born to show us how to walk in God, the Father's ways so that we could be set free from sin in the old law through Christ. If you look at the life of Jesus, He went through everything we went through back then and still are going through today. But in Jesus' walk He did it without sin, AND because He was born in the flesh He was also subject to sin yet he did not, and everything He did He did it in His Father's name and He asked the Father before He did it anything. He even told His disciples that nothing He did was of Himself but came from the Father. This is how He could bare our sins because He truly lived and walk this earth righteously and without sin. He is truly our salvation only if we believe in Him as our Savior, and we have to walk in His ways! The question about are we sinners or not after we accept Christ, is that when we say that we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal savior we must also understand that we must try earnestly to walk in His ways.... all who say they accepts Christ, will not be called because Jesus states this Himself. When Jesus, fulfilled the law by living in the flesh without sin we could surmise that we are still accountable to the law we just don't live under the same conditions that the old law conditioned which was death. We are under the new covenant through Jesus Christ as our savior to have life now and also eternal life. We are still flesh and there for we still sin...does that make us sinners? Well do you sin? Be careful not to point your finger at someone else and say they are a sinner and you still sin. God, is the one who judges all and if we concentrate on being righteous in His sight and love Him with all our heart and soul and look to Him for all of our needs and desires we will walk in righteousness and live Holy unto Him. He knows that this is a process for us because we are still flesh that's why Jesus came. He was trying to teach us how to live in the Spirit and separate our selves from the flesh so we could then have a better understanding of our Father who created us, to be obedient to Him only. Through Jesus Christ, when we do sin, we can ask for forgiveness because we accepted Him as our Savior, remembering always because of our fleshly nature we will always fall short of God's glory and we no longer have to make sacrifices through the slaughtering of animals but to ask forgiveness through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who died for us so that we could live.

To what end does it serve to call ourselves sinners? Who do we think sinners serve? Why do we feel the need to identify with the devil, as his offspring (sinners), or Adam's offspring when God clearly says we are of the Spirit?2 Cor 5:16-21; Romans 8:1-2, 9-10, 17;

To tell you the truth our flesh always wants to sin but our spirit always wants to worship God. It is a battle as to who wins out. Does your flesh or does your spirit man win. Since you are in charge of your own body then you have to decide who do you want to win.

Just like the apostle Paul struggled with his flesh and with his spirit man, we also struggle as Christians to do the right thing. The right thing is to listen to the voice of God as He talks through your spirit man.

So that makes our spirit man is the righteousness of Christ and our fleshly man sinful.
